Meet The News Director: Tim Vander Tuuk

Where shall I begin? I like to talk. That’s why I do this radio thing. That about covers it really.

In reality, I graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2002. During my schooling I got a chance to intern for Jim Moran and Chip Egan early in the mornings here at WKRS. From there they hired me to take over for the afternoon news person, who was leaving. Shortly thereafter, they moved me to the morning, slapped me with the News Director title, and the rest is radio history.

Today, I strive to give you the best local news coverage that one person can. I have the backing of a wonderful community, and the help of several local government, including police and fire that help keep you (and me) up to date.

I am married to my wonderful wife Sara, and have been since September of 2004. We have two children. Jacob is number 1, he was born in June of 2006:

And our second son was born on July 22nd of 2009. His name is Casey:

They are good kids, and like each other (for now):

I am a hockey nut (if you couldn't tell), one of the few left on this fine planet. My favorite team is the Colorado Avalanche. You don't believe me? I have even brainwashed my family:

I do enjoy the Chicago Blackhawks as well (I root for them every game, except against the Avalanche) and the AHL's Chicago Wolves. I even got a chance to suit up as a goalie early this year (2010) to take some shots in warm-ups with the Great Lakes Hockey League's Vernon Hills Capitals:

My other passion is baseball, with the Chicago Cubs at the tops of the heap.

Believe it or not, I am also a big science guy. I love anything, especially, that has to do with outer space. There are days where I will spend hours watching things on the History, Discovery or Science Channel.

In 2008 I was proud and honored to win the Illinois Broadcaster Association "Silver Dome" Award for "Best Local Newscast."
