Report From Afghanistan with Robb Ochsner



Sergeant Major Robb Ochsner enlisted in the Army in 1985 from Waukegan, Illinois and attended One Stop Unit Training at FT Knox, KY as a 19D Cavalry Scout. Upon completion of Basic training and  Airborne School SGM Ochsner was assigned to C Co 3-73 Armor, 82 nd ABN Division where he served as a M551A1 Sheridan Driver, Loader, Gunner and Tank Commander.
In 1989 SGM Ochsner PCSed to Schweinfurt, Germany serving in 3-4 CAV as a Bradley Commander, and Section Sergeant. While there he had the opportunity to conduct one of the last patrols of the east-west German Border.
 
Completing his OCONUS tour of Germany SGM Ochsner was once again assigned to 3- 73 Armor, this time with A Co. While there he served as Tank Commander and Company Master gunner. He deployed to Haiti during Operation Uphold Democracy. When 3-73 Armor was deactivated in 1997 SGM Ochsner was assigned to the USA NCO Academy, Ft Knox as a BNCOC Senior Instructor.
 
In July of 2000 SGM Ochsner was assigned as a Scout Platoon Sergeant overseas to Friedburg, Germany, first in 1-36 Infantry, where he deployed to KOSOVO, then to F Troop, 1st Brigade, 1st Armor Division, Brigade Recon Troop. He deployed with  F TRP to Operation Iraqi Freedom from MAY 2003 thru JUL 2004.

SGM Ochsner served as Team NCOIC of  D Company, OC Team, 1-409 th CAV, Ft Knox, KY from NOV 04-March of 06, before being assigned to A Troop, 1-73 Cav in March of 2006, where he completed another 15 month tour of Iraq with Task Force Falcon.
SGM Ochsner is currently assigned as the Operations Sergeant Major for 4th Brigade, 82nd ABN DIV in Herat, Afghanistan.
 
SGM Ochsner is a graduate of PLDC, BNCOC, ANCOC, 82nd ABN Jumpmaster course, M1 Master Gunner Course, Pathfinder Course, Scout Platoon Leader Course, and Joint Close Air Support Doctrine Course. His awards include Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC) Bronze star (1OLC), ARCOM (4 OLC) AAM (5 OLC) National Defense Ribbon (2 nd Award). Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, NATO Medal, (Kosovo) GWOT-S, GOTWA-E, Iraq Campaign Medal (3 Stars) Overseas ribbon (3 AWD) Master Parachutist Badge , Pathfinder badge, and Combat Action Badge. SGM Ochsner is a member of the Order of St George.
 
SGM Ochsner’s deployments include, Operation Restore Democracy (Haiti), Kosovo, Operation Iraqi freedom I, III, IV, and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan)
 
SGM Ochsner is married to SFC(R) Debbie Ochsner and has two sons Lee, 17 and Ryan 11. They currently reside at Fayetteville, NC.
