(Grayslake, IL) More is being learned about the circumstances surrounding an emergency landing Sunday night at the Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling. Original reports said a plane was taking off from the Grayslake area Campbell Airport when it clipped a deer on the runway, but the plane was actually attempting to land. The pilot of the plane, John Olson of Mundelein says he saw three deer on the runway as he attempted his landing, and couldn’t avoid all of them. The one that he hit, damaged his landing gear on one side…and instead of attempting another landing at Campbell, Olson glided into the Wheeling-area airport because of it’s emergency services. The small plane carrying the pilot and his family was returning home from a short trip to Michigan when the incident occurred…no one was injured.
